"With "Tent City" there are two primary goals:
1. Recruitment: This is our rush, modeled after the Greek Rush week, in which each group puts on events and host parties to show freshman and new comers to the University just what their organization has to offer. There is an adjustment that we would like to make to this model and that is instead of each group in the progressive community competing with one another for members we work as a community to bring members into the collective. It really does not matter which group a new comer starts out in, they will eventually find a group that suits them. And that is what we want, newcomers finding a place they feel comfortable.
2. Community Building: We as a community seem to be drifting farther and farther apart. Instead, let us focus on the things that we have in common, the ideals and principals that we all believe in and strive to uphold. If we only unite and organize in a peaceful, caring manner; we can be a mighty force on campus, a strong clear voice forging a just community in a culture of isolation. We must become strong, united and active as a student community. So the secondary, but perhaps more important purpose of this week long coming together is that by the end we will be a more active, more educated, healthier, and happier collective.
